Sailing Instructor - Youth Program
Description
Lead sailing instructor at successful nonprofit sailing school. We have a large fleet of well maintained Bugs, Zests, Quests, and FJs along with 14' and 15' Achilles inflatable coaching boats. We operate from the Clinton Town Beach with beautiful views of Cedar Island and Long Island Sound.
Qualifications
- 18+ years old
- US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification or greater
- Current US Sailing membership
- Driver’s License
- CT Safe Boating Certificate
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
- Experience teaching basic sailing to children and/or adults preferred
- Experience implementing curriculum preferred
- Ability to manage multiple challenges simultaneously
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
- Implement CSC sailing curriculum
- Take daily attendance of students, Junior Instructors, and Shore Power
- Provide feedback to parents about aspects of their child’s performance
- Complete skill acquisition sheet for each sailor by the end of the week, share with families
- Fill out accident reports and inform parents of incidents
- Manage and mentor Junior Instructors to improve coaching, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Enforce CSC code of conduct and expectations of Junior Instructors
- Monitor Junior Instructor performance and safety while on the water
- Oversee beginning and end of day procedures
- Ensure boats, equipment, and supplies are properly stored and secured
- Report all equipment issues to the Boat Committee
- Communicate with CSC Board of Directors in order to provide sailing instruction in a fun and safe environment
- The Instructor reports directly to the CSC Board of Directors.
