Sailing Instructor - Junior

Instructors in training, Junior Instructors, pay a small fee to learn sailing instruction from the ground up. Working closely with our Lead Instructor(s), you will help run our classes at the Clinton Town Beach.  Weeklong training sessions are available 8:30am - 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 4:30pm weekdays from late June to mid August.


CSC's Junior Instructor (JI) application includes electronic forms with digital signatures to reduce paperwork. Applicants should complete the process with a Parent or Legal Guardian who will need to electronically sign the required forms.     • Represent CSC in a professional manner at all times in person or online
    • Report to the beach at least 15 minutes before the start of each session
    • Reports to Instructor and Program Director
    • Completes assigned tasks
    • Ensure trailer and CSC areas are secure and only CSC personnel are in area
    • Clean and organize trailer
    • Report  damage to boats or equipment to the instructor
    • De-rig and clean boats at the end of the day
    • Put away equipment in the trailer
    • Other duties as directed by Instructors, Program Director, and CSC Board 
  • Experienced
    • Help with fitting sailors with PFD’s, helmets, and clean after use and store 
    • Help prepare boats for use based on the instructor’s directions
    • Monitor club radio for communication & use correct radio protocol 
    • Assists in the supervision of the students 
    • Other duties as directed by Instructors, Program Director, and CSC Board

Junior Instructors report to the Program Instructor, but will also work under the mentorship of the Lead Junior Instructor.

  • 13 years old or have completed 7th grade
  • Previous sailing experience
  • Confident swimmer
  • CT Safe Boating Certificate 
  • Participate in our MANDATORY Instructor training session(s)
  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus
