Mike Knudsen – Director

Mike had one of his first sailing experiences learning to sail right off Clinton Beach around the age of ten on his best friend’s father’s Force 5 sailboat. Mike bought his first Laser, and his father took him on weekends to different spots around Connecticut and Rhode Island to sail.

In high school, Mike was captain of the Xavier Sailing Team, where he sailed 420s out of the Coast Guard Academy in New London and then Pettipaug Yacht Club in Essex on the Connecticut River. Mike has been a member of Pettipaug Yacht Club and Sailing Academy since 1994.

The call of the water took Mike to Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, where he competed as captain of the Varsity Sailing Team, traveling along the eastern seaboard.

Mike joined Clinton Sailing Club because he wants his children and Shoreline residents to be able to develop a love of sailing and the water. When Mike isn’t on the water – or volunteering on Clinton’s Planning & Zoning Committee – he is an appraiser of machinery and equipment, which takes him across the country working for banks, bankruptcy trustees, and specialty lenders.
